Deer Lodge Ride, May 2006

Sunday, May 7, 2006, the Touring Elks left Pappy's on the freeway at 9am. The sun finally burned though as we headed east on Hwy. 166. After a quick stop at the Cuyama Buckhorn we turned west on Hwy. 33 toward Ventura & the coast. It was a 75 mile ride to our destination through quite a few twisty turns. We climbed in elevation through some beautiful country until we crested the Pine Mountain Pass at 5,190', then headed down the other side of the mountain range to our lunch stop at the Deer Lodge in Ojai. Bikes & people were everywhere but we managed to get tables set up for all of us. After lunch, we rode Hwy. 150 past Casitas Lake & to Hwy. 101 in Carpenteria. A ride through Santa Barbara brought us to the Hwy. 154 turn off where we rode over San Marcos Pass & a stop at the Maverick Saloon in Santa Ynez. After quenching our thirst, it was back to Hwy. 101 where we exited at Los Alamos & rode Hwy. 135 to Hwy. 1 & return to Santa Maria. A 220+ mile day ride enjoyed by all that went.
