Our January campout coincided with the arrival of winter at Pismo
Beach. January 12, 13, 14 the Traveleers saw some of
the coldest weather seen in Pismo Beach
in many years. Although the weather
dipped into the twenties at night, the forty-two campers who weathered the cold
enjoyed a very pleasant campout. Holiday
Village RV Park, the site of the campout, made up for the unpleasant weather
providing us the use of their upstairs meeting room. It was decorated in a cozy sea side theme
which made for a very warm and pleasant atmosphere.
Friday evening everyone gathered for our usual CYO and pot
luck followed by card playing.
Saturday morning started out with rolls for breakfast along
with conversation about how cold it had been the night before. Many of the rigs were found to have frozen
hoses, a rare occurrence on the central coast. Harvey Lobo and the golfers cancelled their golf game figuring that it
was just too cold and that no doubt the course would not allow them on the
frosted grass.
At noon Carol and Fred Adams were the Champagne
hosts. By noon with the sun shining
brightly, the weather had warmed up enough that they served the champagne
outside in special glasses. Following
the champagne the group headed back indoors to the second story room by stairs
and elevator for lunch, raffle and meeting. At the meeting the question arose of when the
new trailer would be ready for use. It
was stated that the reason for the delay was that the crew that would be doing the
work have been tied up working the new RV Park. As soon as they finish at the park
they will tackle the trailer. Also
decided was to send $100 to the EMF fund. While waiting for the raffle to begin, many of the campers stepped out
onto the second story deck to watch an Alaskan couple swimming in the immaculately
kept heated pool. They chided the
campers to come join them. There were no
takers. The raffle then proceeded with
Ann Williams as the presenter of the raffle and Jeanie Lobo selling the tickets.
Saturday night's dinner was presented by Anne and Steve
Williams. A delicious dinner of Tri Tip, beans, salad, and garlic bread with
chocolate mints for desert was served. Steve's Tri Tip along with Ann's salad was the
best. Great job Ann and Steve. After
dinner several campers won money from bingo games called by Jeanie Lobo and
Larry Bowman.
Sunday morning Stan Voris and Harvey Lobo served the campers
a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and orange juice. On this cold morning it sure
tasted good. With breakfast over
everyone pitched in to clean up and when finished, you would not have known we
had ever been there. Thanks everyone who
helped.
I want to give a very special thanks to Steve and Ann
Williams who stepped in at the very last minute and offered to take on the
Saturday evening dinner task. It was much better than the dinner of chili
that I had planned to serve. Also special thanks to Stan Voris and Harvey Lobo for
Sunday's breakfast
March 16, 17 and 18 is the annual officer installation
dinner at the Lodge. Camping is
optional.
